Transcript, preface and annotation: Dr. Jérôme Melançon
Maurice Merleau-Ponty (1908-1961), a philosopher, taught at the Sorbonne and the Collège de France, two of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in France. He collaborated with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir on the journal Les Temps modernes and was often invited to discuss topics tied to culture and to current events on French radio. After hours and hours passed at the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel, at the French National Library, Jérôme Melançon transcribed these radio interviews which deal with the philosopher's personal and intellectual trajectory, with his political positions, and with French culture in the twentieth century.
