Certificate in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies

Consisting of 10 courses (30 credits), this flexible program allows you to French while exploring Francophone culture. The certificate is ideal for students:

  • Who have an intermediate or advanced level of French
  • Who wish to study French part-time or at the same time as another program of study

Are you studying journalism?

Studying French can expand your vocabulary and improve grammar skills, even in English. Bilingual journalists have an advantage that opens door to numerous career opportunities.

Entrance Requirements

  • Meet the entrance requirements of La Cité universitaire francophone at the University of Regina (students from all faculties are eligible for admission).
  • Possess an intermediate or advanced level of French (ideally have completed a program in a Francophone or French immersion school). A placement test is required before enrolling in your first course.

Exploration II

This language and culture course will further explore oral and writing skills and will raise awareness of Francophone issues.

This language and culture course will enhance writing skills and will further explore Francophone issues as well as provide a favourable environment for critical thinking.

This language and culture course will enhance writing skills and will further explore Francophone issues as well as provide a favourable environment for critical thinking.

Three FRN 200 L Courses

Total of 9 credits

 

Two FRN 300 or 400 L Courses

Two elective courses (choose among):

  • Any FRN course (except FRN 100, FRN 101 and FRN 110)
  • FRN 141 (the only English course that will be accepted)
  • Any other course taught in French at the University of Regina
  • Any course that receives approval from the PÉFI

The certificate program is open to all university students, no matter what their program or year.

Students may choose to do the certificate at the same time as a bachelor’s program, although this is not a requirement.

Note that the certificate is designed to be completed over more than two terms. 

 

  • A $500 scholarship per term is available (when taking at least 3 French courses per term), as well as access to other scholarships from La Cité.
  • Access to the Student Services Centre (free tutoring service, job-seeking assistance, etc.).
