Celebrating the Language Institute’s renaming to La Cité

Mar 28, 2019

An invitation from Dr. Vianne Timmons, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Regina:

Last fall the University of Regina sought public input into a new name for the Language Institute Building to more properly reflect its purpose, and its significance to the University and community.

I am pleased to announce that we are officially renaming the Language Institute Building as La Cité. The new name is a powerful symbol that affirms the University’s commitment to French-language education and our partnership with the Assemblée communautaire fransaskoise (l’ACF) and the Fransaskois community. It is a show of our respect for Francophone culture on campus, and is a commitment to a shared future in our province.

Please join me to celebrate the newly-renamed La Cité building:

  • March 28, 2019
  • 10:00 a.m.
  • La Rotonde, La Cité

This celebration marks the journey that began with the development of the University’s Bilingual Studies Centre in 1968. In 1991, the Language Institute Building was built. Now, more than half a century later, the newly-renamed La Cité building houses an academic unit, La Cité universitaire francophone, as well as le Bac en éducation program. La Cité is the hub for French-language education and culture on our campus and in Saskatchewan.
