Start of the Winter 2025 Semester!

The Winter 2025 semester has officially begun at La Cité universitaire francophone (La Cité), University of Regina. La Cité extends warm wishes for a happy and successful new year and a heartfelt welcome to all students, faculty, and staff.

On Monday, January 6, the first day of the new term, the campus was filled with energy as students returned to classrooms, laboratories, and virtual spaces to pursue their academic goals. They will benefit from numerous learning, collaboration, and academic enrichment opportunities.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome you to this new chapter. Whether you are a returning student or starting your journey with us, we want you to know that you can count on the university community to support your academic and personal success,” said Dr. Sophie Gaudet, Interim Dean. “Take full advantage of our academic support services, scholarships, and available wellness resources,” she added.

In collaboration with the Student Services Centre, La Cité offers a variety of services for Francophone and Francophile students. These include academic advising and several scholarships to support their academic dreams. For example, the French as a Second Language scholarships, funded by the federal government and administered in collaboration with the Association des collèges et universités de la francophonie canadienne (ACUFC), include 40 scholarships of $3,000 each, totaling $120,000.

Students enrolled in the Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Bilingual Option) program have access to various financial aids, including an entrance scholarship of up to $10,000, a retention scholarship ranging from $2,000 to $3,000, a $1,000 clinical placement scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship to support men in the profession, a CNFS prize worth $2,500, and a $1,000 scholarship from the Réseau Santé en français de la Saskatchewan. More information on available scholarships can be found at the following link: https://lacite.uregina.ca/fr/scholarships.

The University of Regina also offers a wide range of programs to support student well-being and mental health, accessibility services, multi-faith chaplaincy, housing, and experiential learning opportunities.

The university and its federated colleges are reporting a promising start to the semester with over 16,600 students enrolled for Winter 2025. Over 158,300 credit hours have been registered, marking a 1.9% increase compared to the same period last year. These preliminary enrollment figures, to be confirmed in February 2025, represent a 2.4% increase compared to Winter 2024 and an 11.6% increase compared to Winter 2023.
