The FLS 2024-2025 Scholarships, funded by the Government of Canada, offer an exciting opportunity for students to enhance their bilingual skills and pursue postsecondary studies in French. This initiative is part of the Action Plan for Official Languages 2018-2023: Investing in Our Future, which aims to promote bilingualism and create a more linguistically diverse Canada.

Launched in 2019, the scholarships support Canadian Anglophone students by providing financial assistance to study in their second official language. Each scholarship is valued at $3,000. At the University of Regina, La Cité universitaire francophone administers this program in partnership with the Association des collèges et universités de la francophonie canadienne (ACUFC).

Students eligible for this program must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents with English as their first official language. They must have completed their secondary education in an Anglophone or non-official language institution and be enrolled full-time in a French-language postsecondary program at the University of Regina. Additionally, at least 50% of their courses and related activities, such as internships and community-based projects, must be in French.

Preference is given to students facing financial challenges that limit their access to postsecondary education, those who are the first in their family to pursue higher education, and individuals from underrepresented or disadvantaged groups. Applicants can self-declare their eligibility for these additional considerations.

This scholarship program provides students with the chance to strengthen their bilingualism, gain valuable professional and academic skills, and receive significant financial support to ease the cost of their studies.

To apply, students can submit their applications through the University of Regina’s Student Award Management System (SAMS) or Graduate Awards Portal (GAP). The deadline for applications is February 3, 2025.
