Dean's Message

Welcome to La Cité universitaire francophone's website. Take advantage of your visit to learn about our varied social and cultural activities.

On July 7, 2015, the Board of Governors of the University of Regina unanimously endorsed the collective imagination that La Cité represents. This was in response to the aspirations of the Francophone community which sought a unit endowed with the academic status, strictly speaking, that would allow it to function as a faculty. Conferred with this status, La Cité is now able to develop customized programs and to manage its academic and administrative personnel according to its stated vision. This Francophone academic entity is therefore not to be understood exclusively in the traditional sense, but also as a milieu de vie, a supportive Francophone environment, for the university population as a whole, both professors and students. For this reason, we are a special destination for Saskatchewan’s Francophone community with whom we are establishing solid and productive relationships. Although we exist in a minority context, we are, for all intents and purposes, a Francophone beacon of light shining within an English-speaking majority.

La Cité universitaire francophone is not simply a symbol of linguistic and cultural diversity. It is essential to the development of the University of Regina and to the Francophone community located on and off-campus. La Cité is the beating heart of French-language education. It is the product of the mutual understanding between the University of Regina and Saskatchewan’s Francophonie.

La Cité’s mission is to meet the university education needs of Saskatchewan’s French-speakers, no matter their first language. It sets itself apart through its community engagement, its experiential education, and its interdisciplinary research approaches. La Cité is a place to reflect on, and to experience, la francophonie.

La Cité is therefore proud of its contributions to the development of the Fransaskois community on many fronts. Our research centre (CRFM) is focused on rigorous, innovative, bold and comparative approaches aimed at understanding the challenges and advantages of living to the full in a minority environment.

La Cité, an accessible and convivial space, remains a cultural driving force for every French-speaker. Its Rotonde is a unifying symbol where Francophone culture is constantly vibrant. Our welcoming spaces are always available to you.

Come visit us at La Cité!
