19:00LE "MOMENT 68" EN ACADIE DE LA NOUVELLE-ÉCOSSE
In collaboration with the Association francophone pour le savoir (ACFAS), La Cité universitaire francophone invites you to participate this conference presented by Michael Poplyansky, Ph.D., instructor in the Department of
Francophone and Intercultural Studies.
The upheavals of the late sixties touched the Western world in its entirety. Even Collège Sainte-Anne, in Church Point, Nova Scotia, a classical college run by eudist fathers since its foundation in 1890, went through a week-long student strike in December 1968. To what extent, then, did the global spirit of contestation affect students in a rural Catholic college? Apart from shedding new light on the history of contemporary Nova Scotia, this presentation is a case-study of the way in which global phenomena affect “peripheral locations”. We hope to end with a discussion on the sixties as they were experienced at Saskatchewan’s Collège Mathieu.
